Presenter Information

TRVS 2021 will take place using Zoom. Please make sure you have Zoom installed and updated. You can find the latest version of Zoom here.

Since the wide range of time zones will be the greatest challenge for our highly international conference, we ask all speakers to keep on time.

Invited oral presentations will have a 30-minute time block, with a goal of a 25-minute presentation and 5 minutes of discussion.

Contributed oral presentations will have a 20-minute time block (eg. 17 minutes, plus 3 for discussion).

Speakers will share their screen to give their presentations. Although we assume most presenters will be quite familiar with Zoom meetings by now, we still encourage presenters to check on your own that you have no problems sharing the screen (and that the slides advance correctly).

During the break before each set of talks, the session chair will make sure each speaker is able to share their screen. We really want to be able to transition quickly between speakers so we can stay on schedule as much as possible.

We are very grateful for everyone’s help in facilitating an interactive meeting!

BREAKout Rooms

Each day has roughly one hour of break time in 15-minute blocks between the talks. We will use the “Symmetry Break Room” in Gather to meet with the speakers of the previous session for further discussion during the break. Participants will be free to join a breakout room to engage in a post-talk discussion similar to how one would do at a meeting. We encourage everyone to return to the main conference, but understand that some discussions are just too good to cut short.

Note that it is possible to have Gather and Zoom running at the same time. So there should not need to be any delay in switching between the two platforms.

Poster Session Information

There will be two poster sessions, one in the morning (US Eastern Time 9:00 - 11:00 AM) and the other in the afternoon (US Eastern time 3:00 - 5:00 PM). Although these times do not work for all participants, we will leave the poster session rooms open outside of the official poster session times, so you can arrange with the presenter to visit their poster at a time that is mutually convenient. All poster information will be available in the conference program.

We will be using Gather to host the poster sessions. This platform allows a good integration of static images to enable traditional browsing as you would do at a physical poster session, while also allowing screen sharing so you have complete flexibility in how you present your work.

How you present is up to you—anything you can share on your screen will work! You may present a single poster image as you would in a traditional conference, or you can prepare a slide presentation.

During the scheduled poster sessions, or any other time you can arrange, please go to your poster (they are numbered according to the poster summary PDF files that you can find in the program pages for Tuesday and Thursday.

Once at your poster, the slightly blue region to the right of your poster is where you will be able to have an interaction with those visiting your poster. If you are sharing your screen (recommended!), anyone who enters the blue area will also see your shared screen.

When visitors are near your poster TOC image (thanks for sending these, it really makes the difference!) they can type ‘x’ to see the full sized image.
